Objectives:
  • To determine top placing teams and individuals in judging and identification contests and qualify contestants for State 4-H Roundup
  • To provide recognition for project work and skills development in the areas of judging and identification
  • To promote teamwork for 4-H members and adult leaders and expand their knowledge of 4-H opportunities
  • To provide 4-H members the opportunity to compare the skills they have gained with those of other members and with their own previous performance
  • To provide 4-H members with an opportunity to develop and practice public speaking and analytical skills

Schedule:

Dairy Judging -- Thursday, April 3, 2008
Meet at the Wilson County Courthouse and teams will travel out to the Dairy together for contest.

Meat Judging -- Tuesday, April 22, 2008 Contest will be held in San Angelo at the Angelo State Meats Lab. Contest will begin at 9:00 a.m.

Swine Skill-A-Thon -- Saturday, April 26, 2008
Contest will be held at the LBJ Student Center, 1st floor, in San Marcos in conjunction with the Fashion Show.

Livestock, Soils, Range -- Saturday, May 3, 2008
These contests will begin at 9:00 a.m. in Gillespie County. Livestock will be at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds; Range will meet at Fairrounds and go out to the judging site together; Soils will meet at the Gillespie County Extension Office.

Entomology, Grass ID, Mohair and Wool -- Saturday, May 3, 2008
These contests will begin at 2:00 p.m. in Gillespie County. Entomology, Mohair and Wool will be held at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds; Grass ID will be held at the Gillespie County Extension Office.


Entry Deadline:

Dairy -- Registration on 4-H Connect March 7-20, 2008. Fee is $10 per person. Late registration will be March 21-23 for a fee of $15.00 per person

All other contests-- Registration on 4-H Connect April 1-14, 2008. Fee is $5 per person. Late registration will be April 15-16, 2008 for a fee of $10 per person.
